Meet Cranberry: A Character of Dragon Ball Super Manga

Cranberry DBZ

Cranberry is a minor yet intriguing character in the “Dragon Ball Super” manga. Originally a soldier in Frieza’s army, his journey is marked by survival, betrayal, and a quest for personal gain. Despite his limited role, Cranberry’s actions significantly impact the series’ narrative, especially during the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga.

Cranberry is a humanoid alien who served as a low-ranking soldier in the Frieza Force. He resembles other race members, such as Namole and Fisshi, sharing similar physical features. During the Namek Saga in “Dragon Ball Z,” Cranberry was part of the invasion force sent to Planet Namek to gather the Dragon Balls for Frieza. However, his tenure was cut short when Zarbon, one of Frieza’s top lieutenants, killed him for his incompetence.

Following his death, Cranberry was resurrected along with others killed by Frieza and his men, thanks to a wish made on the Earth’s Dragon Balls. Seizing this second chance, he escaped Namek using Vegeta’s abandoned Attack Ball before the planet’s destruction. To avoid retribution from the remnants of the Frieza Force and other enemies, Cranberry lived a life of hiding, eventually being captured by the Galactic Patrol.

While imprisoned, Cranberry encountered Moro, a powerful sorcerer known as the “Planet-Eater.” Recognizing an opportunity, Cranberry assisted Moro in escaping the Galactic Patrol Prison. In return, Moro enlisted Cranberry’s help to locate the Namekian Dragon Balls, leveraging Cranberry’s prior knowledge of Namek. Their partnership was convenient, with Cranberry aiming to use the Dragon Balls for his benefit.

Upon gathering all seven Dragon Balls, Cranberry summoned Porunga, the Eternal Dragon of Namek. His first wish was to heal his injuries, restoring him to full strength. For the second wish, under Moro’s telepathic instruction, he restored Moro’s full magical power. Cranberry intended to use the third wish to transport himself to a safe, remote location, free from Moro’s reach. However, before he could make this final wish, Moro betrayed him, fatally piercing his chest. This act underscores the ruthless nature of their alliance and serves as a grim reminder of the perils of associating with beings like Moro.

Cranberry embodies the traits of a self-serving survivor. His actions are driven by a desire for self-preservation and personal gain. Despite his cunning and opportunism, he lacks the strength and foresight to navigate the treacherous alliances he forms. His demise at the hands of Moro highlights the dangers inherent in seeking power through unscrupulous means.

While not a central character, Cranberry’s role is pivotal in the progression of the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga. His assistance enables Moro to regain his full strength, setting the stage for subsequent conflicts with the series’ protagonists. Cranberry’s actions catalyze events that challenge Goku, Vegeta, and their allies, adding depth and complexity to the narrative.

Cranberry’s journey in the “Dragon Ball Super” manga is a testament to the intricate storytelling that defines the series. His character, though minor, plays a crucial role in shaping the events of the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga. Through his story, readers are reminded of the themes of survival, betrayal, and the consequences of one’s choices in the pursuit of power.
